MEDICAL AIR TREATMENT
SYSTEMS
The
PAS500 and PAS900 are ceiling mounted HEPA/UV Air Systems that combine reverse
gel seal HEPA filters with high dosage UV lamps for use in high risk infection
control areas including Operating Suites, TB Isolation Rooms, Compounding areas
in pharmacies, or any critical care area. Both units are flush mounted in any
ceiling, have room side filter and lamp access, and come with a wall mounted
control box for monitoring air flow, filter loading, and the UV lamps. Used to
comply with CDC, OSHA, or JCAHO requirements, the PAS500 and PAS900 can be used
to create negative pressure, positive pressure, or be used for in-room air
recirculation.

Technology:
High Efficiency Particulate
Air Filters (HEPA)
The HEPA filters
used in the PAS500/950 are all individually scanned and certified to perform at
99.99% efficiency at .3 microns, and the HEPA filter is mechanically sealed
within the cabinet to prevent air bypass around it so the unit performs at HEPA
efficiency. The PAS500/950 system come standard with reverse gel seal HEPA
filters having an aluminum frame to ensure against frame disintegration or
warping due to moisture.
Ultraviolet Germicidal
Irradiation
Four 22” UV lamps
(two in the PAS500) located before and radiating on the dirty/inlet side of the
HEPA filter destroy airborne bacteria and viruses and larger microorganisms that
collect on the HEPA. Mold is too big to be destroyed by UV on a single pass
when airborne, but which are easily trapped by the HEPA filter and can therefore
be deactivated due to constant UV bathing. Please review the sheet showing
dosage of UV-C necessary for complete destruction of various airborne
pathogens. Microorganisms like mold can actually live and grow on filters (by
feeding off of trapped particulate and microorganisms on the HEPA), eventually
eating through the filter media and potentially creating pinhole leaks. If this
occurs over a long enough period of time, trapped microorganisms can destroy the
integrity of the filter, rendering it inefficient and useless. And by having
the UV constantly radiating and “cleaning” the HEPA filter; it creates a safer
environment for when the filters need to be changed.
Applications:
Medical
facilities in operating rooms, TB Isolation rooms, intensive care units,
examination rooms, Emergency Rooms, bronchoscopy/sputum rooms, and waiting
areas. Also used in laboratories (tissue culture or other high risk labs),
clean rooms, homeless shelters, AIDS clinics, or anywhere there is a high risk
of airborne bacteria and disease.
Features/Advantages:
Negative/Positive Pressure and Recirculation Options
The PAS500 and
PAS950 can be ordered as positive pressure units or negative pressure units. As
positive pressure units, they are connected to the supply ductwork of the
central HVAC system to clean and disinfect supply air. As negative pressure
units, they will pull air out of a room, clean and disinfect it, and exhaust it
outside of the room. Either can be made into an in-room air recirculation
system, for all that is needed is to duct the unit to a separate return or
supply grille in the room (depending on which model is purchased) so that clean
air will be recycled back into the room.
Ceiling Mounted
The PAS500 and
PAS950 are flush mounted within the ceiling (typically a standard T-Bar
ceiling), so they are out of the way and don’t take up any space within the
room.
Wall Mounted Control Panel
Every ceiling
unit is equipped with a wall mounted panel with controls that enable the user to
change speeds, monitor the HEPA filter and UV lamps, and turn the unit and the
UV lamps off/on.
Low Replacement Costs
UVGI not
only enhances the effectiveness of the unit, but it also reduces the replacement
costs, thereby increasing the overall efficiency. The most expensive
replacement cost of any similar air cleaning device is the HEPA filter, and
premature HEPA replacement can occur in other units due to mold and microbial
growth. However, with the PAS500/950, the entire HEPA filter is constantly
bathed in UV light, so mold and microbial growth cannot occur. Given this and a
prefilter that will take out larger dust particles, the HEPA filters in our
systems can last up to three years (depending on particulate load), thereby
lowering annual maintenance costs.
Ease of Maintenance
All filters
and lamps can be easily and quickly changed from within the room through the
unit’s grille, as personnel will not need to go above the ceiling for standard
maintenance. The unit comes standard with a digital differential pressure gauge
for showing when the HEPA filter needs to be changed, and an indicator light
that monitors functioning of the UV lamps.
Compliance with CDC and
OSHA Guidelines
The technology and
type of function provided by the PAS500/950 is endorsed and recommended by the
Center for Disease Control for control of Tuberculosis and other infectious
disease. As such, when using the PAS500/950 correctly, facilities comply with
CDC and OSHA standards for infection control.
Safety Interlock
A safety interlock
mechanism is in place that will automatically shut down all power to the unit
when the access door is opened. This prevents direct exposure to UV radiation
and to any powered electrical components.
